about abc codes
To learn more about ABC codes, watch the CEO of ABC Coding Solutions, Inc address the National Press Club:
ABC Coding Solutions, Inc. (formally Alternative Link), was founded in 1996 to overcome barriers to insurance reimbursement for holistic care and operates out of Boulder, CO. By 2000, ABC codes included services provided by advanced practice nurses, were published by the National Library of Medicine as a medical language and recognized by the American Nurses Association as a nursing terminology.
Over 20 other non-medical provider groups have recognized ABC codes and lobbied for federal adoption.
In addition to supplying codes to document care delivered by over 2 million health professionals, we also develop plan benefits for insurers, contract providers with managed care organizations and establish protocols to measure and identify cost-effective options to conventional medicine.
Our codes are updated annually as needed and consist of a five letter string (example AAAAA) followed by a two character code modifier (1A). The string identifies the service, remedy, or supply item. The code modifier identifies the practitioner type.
